JOB SUMMARY:

Provides customer focused administrative support to the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program (BFPC) by giving information and encouragement to WIC pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women. This position requires excellent communication skills, and intermediate computer ability. Those with an enthusiasm for breastfeeding are encouraged to apply. This is a team-oriented environment.

Hours: 28 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Requires flexible scheduling between the hours of 7am and 6pm.

Additional availability is required outside of regular clinic days and office hours to meet the needs of the participants.

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct administrative support including inventory control, computer data entry, client eligibility screening, answering phones, scheduling appointments, provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or GED
• 2 years of experience performing general office duties including proficiency in the use of Outlook, Word, and Excel; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Shares similar culture and background of the WIC participants in the community.
• Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Experience:

• Having breastfed at least 1 baby within the last 5 years but does not need to be currently breastfeeding.
• Previous or current WIC participation preferred.

Licenses:

• Safe driving skills and current valid driver’s license are required.

Other Health dept requirements:

All Health Department staff are required to be up to date on the Covid vaccination series as determined by the CDC, including all primary series doses and boosters, as a term and condition of employment with the Department. In addition, proof of all vaccines are mandatory for employment with the Health Dept., including the flu vaccine.
